A Recent TC.COM Post ; (nov 14 2004) I rode Mt Valin this weekend (east and west) on saturday & sunday. Saturday was downright awesome!! And sunday over on the west side we ran into many double wide trails that the atv clubs had groomed the night before.(and not 1 sled in a 100 mi.) Once again awesome!! On saturday morning at the relais "Chappell" at Lac Jalobert around 9 a.m. there was 4 sleds. After a "killer 50 mi. loop" and some screwing around we arrived back at noon to find 70-80 sleds. The FCMQ patrol was even there on thier two sleds. Not hasseling anyone though. The main trails thru Mt Valin were not groomed but it didnt matter as only a handfull of sleds had left tracks at this time and it was actually more fun tracking thru the loose snow. I rode with a couple from Montreal and another guy and we were averaging 60-70 mph all day long. I would say the mountains had 18-24" of freshly fallen snow from late last week. (thats why I went) There were VERY little rocks or anything showing. On the lower trails (like 93) going to the ski hill were obviously tore up a bit and also some of the trail getting back to St Honore where we stayed (like a few mudholes and a few rocks) but the rest was AWESOME!!! The trick is (as usual in snowmobiling) you have to get to the stuff before the rest of the people do and when they do come you have to move to other area's. Like sunday...the west side was nearly dead and we found more grooming heading over there from St Honore. I also stopped off in Letape on the way back down and unloaded and ripped off another 30+ miles on some logging road behind the relais a couple miles. It had two sled tracks on it and approx. 14-17" of snow. All in all I laid down 313 mi. in two days and half the time was spent dicking around taking pictures, hanging at the relais getting trail passes and shootin the bull and the rest was ONE OF THE GREATEST FIRST RIDES I HAVE HAD IN MANY YEARS! So dont believe everything you read on this board , especially when it comes second handed. Saturday
(8 hrs) 175 mi. in Mt Valin east And I drove 620 mi. (one way) to get there and dont regret going at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope everyone's season turns out snowy and safe!!!
