Great Motel and Hotel Vacation Packages Here!
Welcome
to Zen's Comments This winter was very good for sledheads, well, at
least for those that still had some cash to spend. The economic downturn/disaster
in the US banking industry and mortgage companies, has left many of
us penniless, homeless, and For those few brave souls that still pay me to promote their snowmobile businesses, I still make the telephone ring, that's for sure. But there are fewer tourists, fewer hunters, fewer snowmobilers and ATVers out there, that can afford a holiday. The worst part of this scenario is, that many experts feel we have just seen the tip of this financial holocaust disaster up till now, and that the shit is still got to hit the fan. I don't know how much worse it can get, but I guess we're gonna find out. Stay tuned! As for my work, I really pushed hard this year, I spent an 18 week period on the road, doing videos this year of Quebec snowmobiling, commenting in bulletin boards, posting photos, and what is new for me, is that I attended eight snowmobile expo shows! Thats a record for me. I also was featured on a guest on TWO snowmobile TV programs, one in Quebec and one in Michigan. I worked harder than ever before, and lost more money than any other year. This fall, I will have no choice but to work smart. Less travel, more work from home. I have great contacts everywhere now, so I can still get out there and get the snowmobile stories that affect us all. The donations from readers was also abysmal this winter, but oh well, I am grateful to get any at all. So Thanks to everyone that supporter the Zen Miester
this past winter, and have a great safe summer out there on your wheeled
toys!
Zen's May 2008 Snowmobile Business Report Still snowing here in Saskatchewan, and Alberta had a foot of snow last week. We prayed for snow, and we got it. Global warming is bull hooey! Snowmobile motel sales in Quebec and Ontario were
down from 10 to 20% this past winter. Why? You would think with all
the record breaking snow fall that everyone would make a fortune,
right? Nope. That would be too easy. There are many reasons
for the downturn. This winter for example, the American had no advantage with his currency. The US buck was worth the same as the Canadian buck, and in some cases, it was even worth less. In years past, the American snowmobiler could come to Canada on the cheap- his money was worth more. One buck would get him 1.50 in Canada. Imagine the look on his face this January, when the Canadian bank teller handed him 92 cents on the dollar. (It may have been worth 96 cents, but they also charge a small fee.) Also, the American had just as much snow as us this year, in his own yard. Why drive to Canada when you can stay home in New Hampshire, New York, PA, or Main, when you can ride close to home. I am glad for all the small motels in Michigan, Vermont, and Upstate New York. They needed a cash infusion after so many years of snow drought. Good for them. I hope they made some money. But as for quality of riding? Ahhhh.... Well..... The American who has experienced riding in Canada, knows the quality of trails in Quebec and Ontario, he realizes all too well, that our Canadian trails are better - farrrr better. After one entire winter of banging around on sub standard trails, our friend will be back next winter without fail. And, aside from the near perfectly groomed snowmobile trails, he also misses the fun he has at the exotic dancer bars, he misses scarfing down the authentic poutine that he can get in any little roadside restauraunts, and he can enjoy the warmth of the Quebec hotel bar keeps, and staff. There are many good reasons to ride in Quebec. All in all, a spectacular winter - mother nature at her best. Thank you God! But now, if you don't mind, I pray for no more snow- and would like to see the sun and warm weather. And as for Global Warming, there was a new report out this week, that it will now be suspended until 2015. The experts tell us we will now have Global Cooling for a few years. Well, this proves what I have thot all along. Global Warming is BULLSHIT. Have a nice summer everyone! Looks like we are in for another stellar winter in 08 - 09..
2007 - 2008 Snowmobile Season Zen's August 07 Report Unbelievable! That is the only way to describe last winter, or shd I say Non-Winter? Shit - La Merde! For anyone who is, was, or still is, working in the snowmobile industry, my sincerest condolences for last 'winter'. Holy crap Batman! You call that a winter? Oh sure, there were a few brilliant anomalies in late October in Buffalo NY, when the town got thrashed by a freak heavy snow fall, but that seems to have been given to us to create a false hope, and I think that storm helped sled dealers in the area to sell a few sleds, thank God, but after that, a full on snow drought. It wasn't until mid February when the trails in Quebec and as far north as Cochrane Ontario, were good enough to ride safely, and then of course, the season was over as quickly as it began. It was terrible for the sled industry. The snowmobile federation in Ontario and Quebec probably sold about half the trail passes as they normally sell. I am guessing here, cause they sure won't be talking about that much. Always better to downplay the painfully obvious, and hope nobody noticed... well I noticed, and my readers sure as hell noticed. Let's hope and pray that this winter will be more 'normal', and that our trails will be open early for a change. As for me, I had walking pneumonia all winter, till April in fact. Every time I ventured out of my house, my lungs congested, and violent coughing ensued. I had to wrap a scarf around my head, even on mild winter days, because I would start to hack uncontrollably. As a result, I never rode the trails one time, and for the first time in 8 years, I never saw a trail in Quebec or Ontario! Here in Saskatchewan, it was a terrific winter for sledding, but only in the northern province, three hours north of where I live in Mossbank. Saskatoon area got hammered with snow all winter, and cold temperatures. I understand they have snowmobile grooming up there, clubs, trails and all. This year, if I stay healthy, I will go check it out. For now, I am just trying to get all my snowmobile web sites in order, and trying to collect from potential sponsors, so I can afford to keep all the sites up, and perhaps even go for a ride to the east this winter. We shall see. Have a great summer!
