Welcome to Zen's Comments
Help Zen: Send This Page To a Friend

Nov 28th 2004
In St-Zenon today, we got a real good dump of heavy wet snow, about 4 inches. It is starting to freeze up now overnight.

I am going to Newfoundland in the morning, and will be there till Thursday or Friday, so please don't send any e-mail till then.

It's so nice to have this comments page behind bars, so to speak, because I know my enemies can no longer read what I say! Hahahah! I can actually tell you guys, my supporter readers, the truth about what is happening! WOW> FREEDOM!

Of course it's only a matter of time until a mole gets in. Oh well, we'll enjoy the freedom for now.

So far there are only 17 people reading this! All but one paid earlier, or are freebie, so one person paid today! COOL! (THANKS YOU!)

That's 40. bucks in the oil tank.

God bless you guys tonight, I am off to sleep.

Go see the new story, I added the second half of Part one, mostly photos.

Nov 27th 2004

I am busy editing the photos of Mont Valin today and writing the first part of the story.

I am looking for ideas for my next story! If you want me to explore some part of the fabulous Quebec snowmobiling world, please drop me an e-mail! This winter, I am looking for positive people who work hard to build trails, however humble, anywhere in Quebec! If you know of someone deep in the woods who is deserving of a little attention, let me know, and we will go write a story about them.

Like the people of Monts Valins, who groom trails for six months, with the same resources as other clubs that only groom for two or three! These people have heart, and merit our support.

Back to work.

ps:
If you notice parts of our web site disappearing from time to time, do not be concerned. (Index page last Sunday, bulletin board today). If you are a security expert in web site anti-hacking business, we could certainly use your volounteer services this winter.

Nov 26, 2004 BACK in the SHACK.
As usual, I didn't tell anyone where I went, it makes it a nice surprise this way, reappearing with a new story to tell.

I just got back from Les Monts Valin, four hours north of Quebec City, one hour north of Chicoutim, high up in the snow covered mountains. I have the story in my head, and the pictures in my camera. Now I need to spend about 12 hours of work, to get it on line.

This will be our first story for the pay site. Non members will not be able to see the pictures nor read the story. It will be deposited in our new Pay Section.

If your name doesn't appear on the right of this page, chances are you'll have to pay. If your name does appear on the right, you will have to e-mail me and ask for your user name and password, which I will send you.

You still have time to send in your donation, or post a photo album (left side click Albums.) Go and post a minimum of 10 pictures of interest to your fellow readers, and get in for FREE!

We also ask that you work a little harder, and POST a comment on our Bulletin board, in order to earn your free pass! You just have to become a member of the Bulletin Board, (yes, a pain in the ass I admit), and make one post! Then you will be over the worst of it, and you can tell your ten year old that you are happening, because you are now 'posting' on a 'board'! How cool. You can post a complaint! You can say that the site is boring ! Whatever.

Otherwise, just send me 39.99 usd by pay pal, or in the mail, and then I will send you your user name and password by e-mail. Remain in the shadows, and keep enjoying your favorite web site.

You either participate, which will make our web site much stronger, or... you help us along with a cash membership.

Do one or the other, and support the site you love.

Pay site or no, we hope to keep you all hanging around for years to come. Knowing there is a reader listening, tells me I am not alone here, and yet, I am alone almost all the time, except of course, when you come here at six am on your sleds, and insist on getting me over to the casse croute for breakfast.

Still no sign of"Pop-Up" the ermine, but my house mouse is still here tonight, he's chewing the crap out of something inside the wall again. He is very noisy. He's probably cold like me.

Nite all.

zw.

PS: Thanks to Sandra Rouleau for the 20 bucks cash that came in the mail today. They say 'don't send cash in the mail', but I always do, cause I love that! I will save it to fill the oil tank.

Nov. 20 2004
I had another excellent day, driving around our district, enjoying the last few days of driving on clean pavement.

I drove through the zig zag tuns north of the Sept Chutes, and noticed all the road has been resurfaced with new asphalt. The formula one guys should race through there, it's as smooth as can be.

I enjoyed a home cooked meal at the restaurant at the top of the hill, the Casse Croute des Parkes, and it was very good. Home made soup with fish and chips, minus the chips. They don't even ask me anymore, they just give me salad. Also, they remember that I take milk in my coffee instead of cream. Not bad! I've been away for 8 months!

Small town living has it's perks.

While at lunch, I shared the table with big Fernand from the Cabanon. He is the son in law that is slowly taking charge, so that Dennis can finally enjoy a well deserved retirement one day.

He told me that they just finished moving a few trails near the village around to avoid some logging. This is a minor adjustment, the kind of thing they have to do every few years.

Also the problem of the local trail that was cut last winter is resolved, thanks to a team effort between the Club, the land owners, and the Municipality. It cost everyone a bundle, but it is something that had to be done. Good job guys!

Now the idea is to sell enough trail passes this year to cover all the expenses. The club will get it's usual stipend from the government, but the rest will be achieved through guys buying their trail passes when they get here.

Please do not buy your pass somewhere else if you intend to do most of your riding here.

Other than that, Fernand says the Cabanon is ready to roll! Hiring and training staff is a huge job, but they are ready for the onslaught of Cabanon regulars. Bring it on!

I dropped in to visit my good buddy Rockin' Johnny English. He is still busy painting helmets and Harleys with his air brush, what an artist this guy is.

Johnny says it's difficult to get people to pay the price for the long hours it takes to paint a custom design on a helmet, but for them that understand, they gladly pay for his designs. I hope to bring Johnny and his sweetheart with me to a few shows next fall to show off his amazing helmets.

RVR has been sold to the Polaris dealership in St-Michel des Saints. I don't have many details, other than it looks as though the St-Zenon RVR Bombardier Dealership will be closing December first. All of that service and sales will be moved to St-Michel-des-Saints. They will be happy to serve all the customers with the same positive energy.

I dropped in to visit Franky at the Location Haute Matawinie Polaris dealership, and it looks as though they'll be busy as hell with their accusation of RVR and their regular business. They look forward to seeing you all drop in for a coffee this winter.

I dropped by Motel M, and Michel is ready to rock and roll. He somehow got younger looking, (the bastard) over the summer! Botox??

Finally, I saw Mr. Benoit Sr, and Big Keith at the Central, and Pierre at the Moulin a Scie. Everyone is well, and it will be business as usual in the Upper Matawinie for all snowmobilers this winter.

Mother nature is apparently preparing to open up a can of 'whoop-ass' on us this winter, according the the Almanac.

See the photos here in our photo album.

'They put their money where

Thanks guys. It makes it all worth while when I get a few donations. If I had a buck for every bum that told me there was a donation in the mail, I'd be riding my sled in Cuba!

I have been running flat out ever since I got back in the shack, hooking up the high speed, setting things up at the post office, getting the web site in shape, (It's still a disaster), and running around taking pictures of everyone and everything.

I am planning that trip up to Chicoutimi. It's tough to do with no budget. I have called ahead and looks like they will really appreciate me writing about them, and they're gonna feed me.

And thanks to you few good guys, I have over a hundred & fifty bucks to buy gas for the zenmobile.

I expect to leave Monday afternoon. I'll go and hassel Bernard Monday night and sleep on his couch, (nahh, he'll probably give me his best room as usual.) I'll explain why he shd quit smoking. He loves that part!

Tuesday morning early, I'll take off for the north. Tuesday afternoon I'll meet the Club President and he'll show me around.

He has a bed for me, and will give me some bacon, beans and coffee.

I hope to meet some of you guys up there. Mind you, after the weekend, the trails may be beat to hell. This happens when the young bucks, with the raging hormones, rip the shit out of the brand new trail by gunning the new stud covered track, like there was no tomorrow, and to hell with anyone behind us.

So, listen up punk.. yes you. I know you have a hard on to ride hard, and you have a new sled with all the power you'd dreamed of since you were a kid.

BUT PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These guys up here work their asses off grooming, (with their own fuel) and do their best to make the trail good. You come along, and ripp it all to shit!

There is no sense in that okay? Be nice. Leave some trail for the guy behind you.

<<< DANGER>>>

All waterways will be mush if you go up this early. Do not try to go off trail anywhere, you'll probably sink into the slush and down into the stream. Stay on the trail newbie.

RESPECT THE PROPERTY

If you enjoy riding, obey the signs and the speed limits. The cops are out big time. They're waiting for you cowboys. Go to our boards and read my police comments . here

One more thing...
Before you go, please visit one of our sponsors. I asked you guys to do this yesterday. There were over 1000 people that read my Mont Valins page today, and only 3 people clicked on an ad. What a bunch of dick heads! Oh, I'm sorry! Did I offend you? GOOD!

xxoo hugs and kisses

Nov 16 2004

It's great to be back, man I love this place, and my little Zen Shack.

I ran into Marcel , owner of the Glaciere, and we had dinner together. He says everything at the Glaciere is top notch, ready to roll. They have their team assembled, and are ready to serve all their regular clients, and any new people that might drop in.

Last year they built a huge therapeutic hot tub, in the room next to their new lunch bar. A hot tub is a nice touch at the end of a long day out on the trails.

Marcel says the local snowmobile club, spent 50,000 reworking the trail that runs from them down towards St-Emily, and the trail that runs north to the St-Louis. That will be nice and smooth now.

Last year they did the same thing re-building the trail that goes from Real Masse to St-Gabriel, and up to the Glaciere.

The club has also invested another 50,000., building a new trail that will solve the problem we had last year getting through the village of St-Zenon.

What else? I saw the team from the Bistro having breakfast at the Casse Croute des Parcs. Rejean will once again be at the helm in the kitchen while the boss and his partner run things out front. They look well rested and say they will open up December first. Mmm.. Steak!

Looks like the village of St-Come has decided to once again have snowmobile trails that go through their town. Their mayor, a well know environmentalist tree hugger, has apparently relented. Looks like they also need the winter tourist bucks flowing through their area, and they helped him so see the light.

South of us, the farmers got together and refused to sign the access rights for the snowmobile clubs to use their land. It was part of another dossier, which will soon be settled according the the Joliette newspaper.

Like everywhere else, we are feeling the pressure all around this sport. You can help by always respecting the private property we use, by picking up your trash, so that it won't jam up the farmers equipment in the springtime. Also, leave your loud pipes at home, and stay on the trails.

All it takes is one idiot to cause us to loose a trail passage right. In St-Zenon, that is exactly what happened, and because of one pissed off land owner, we had to spend 50,000., to find a way around him.

Also, when you come to ride, purchase your trail pass WHERE YOU RIDE. Make sure that your cash is going towards the trails you use.

Do not buy your trail pass from some club you will never see. If you ride in the upper Matawinie, then support a club there.

This trail system is fabulous, but it is also very fragile. Do everything you can to help the club where you ride.

End of sermon.

Nov. 11th

I think this is Remembrance Day here in Canada, Armistice day. My best wishes to all the veterans out there, of all the wars. Peace is the answer, humanity is the problem. Some things never change.

During my long drive down here, I decided to let by gones be bygones. I don't want war here in Quebec between me and the various tourism associations in Lanaudiere, or even with the chamber of Commerce. Let peace and understanding be the thing this year.

Let's all work together for the common good. Let's respect everyone and work together in harmony for the good of both sides, the American snowmobilers that come up here, and for the local merchants who have built their lives around this sometimes risky market that depends on the weather and so many other factors.

The "truth" is out there, as Mulder used to say on the X-Files. I am often maligned as the one who makes everyone aware of snowmobile theft, bad trail conditions, and bad weather conditions. Every winter, all the business people are whispering behind my back.. "It's him.. He's the one that is killing our business because he talks about theft, bad weather, and poor trail conditions on the Internet."

This year, I am going to fully ignore these detractors. When they say these things behind my back, I am going to pretend they are throwing me roses. I will smile, and not get a resentment. I will pray for them and ask God to bless their businesses. I will pray for those who curse me, and bless those that speak poorly of me.

Then I will thanklessly continue to tell the world about our fabulous snowmobile trail system by offering new beautiful photographs of our snow, our trails, and our beautiful people. I will continue to promote little places that nobody know about FOR FREE if I have to. (Sometimes they have no money). I will continue to translate web sites into English for the small aubergist that doesn't speak English, so that the English speakig snowmobiler from away, can see what is being offered in Quebec.

I do wish, however, that the locals understood the nature of this beast we call the Internet. It is not like a television screen that pumps out information in one direction. If you see a bad newscast on the TV, you cannot 'talk back' to the screen. No one is listening.

When you read a book or a magazine, it is one way communication. You can't talk back to the pages.

Ahh but the Internet is INTERACTIVE. That means, we interact with the screen, we talk back to the pages. And what's even more powerful, is that thousands of people can see your comments, and answer back to your comments, even if you remain 'anonymous', or pretend to be someone else.

I encourage all who visit my bulletin board to speak out for what you believe. It's a new concept here in Canada, it's called FREE SPEECH. One guy writes his opinion, and hundreds answer him back. This is called a healthy dialogue. Like it or not, this dialogue has become a reality on the Internet.

But, the power of this new INTERACTIVE media is lost on most people. All they have to do is start participating in the dialogue to be heard. If they read something on my bulletin board, for example, that they disagree with, they can get on that board, and answer back anything they want. I only sensor the bad words, like shit, fuck, bastard, mother fucker cock sucker... etc etc.

So, people of Quebec, rejoice! All you have to do is get your 12 year old nephew to interupt their 'chatting' with their friends on the computer after school, and ask them to show you how to answer the posts on Zenwaiter that you do not like.

Fight back! Don't hate Zen for building the board, fight back with those people you don't agree with, express your own ideas and opinions! If someone says your motel sucks, fight back! Others will also come to your defense on the bulletin board, because they love your motel!

The reason I built this bulletin board, is so that we can be able to answer back to our detractors. If someone says they had their sled ripped off, others can then proceed to ask questions, like, 'were you drunk at the time?" and "did you leave the keys in the ignition?"

Another thing. Zenwaiter is not the only voice on the Internet that has the Bulletin Board where people are encouraged to talk about Motels, trail conditions, weather reports, or things like snowmobile theft. This thing goes both ways.

It is INTERACTIVE. The truth is out there, somewhere between the person who posts and the reader. The dialogue will bring the truth to the surface.

ALSO, let's not forget that there are a few other people out there with bulletin boards on the subject of snowmobiling in Quebec. I did some searching.

search for ...

'Quebec snowmobile theft' ... 2,380 web sites discuss this topic.

'Quebec Trail conditions' .. 132,000 web sites talk about this.

'Quebec weather' .. 3,000,040 web sites tell if it rains in Quebec.

So... talk about me behind my back if you want, but you still will not stop the information on the Internet. It's too late to stop the flow of information. At one time you could control the info about weather and trail conditions. At one time you could ignore the rampant snowmobile theft and just pray that it would disappear... those days are long gone.

Wake up and smell the Internet friends. The cat is out of the bag, and he ain't going back in any time soon.

Killing Zenwaiter, or burning down the Zen Shack won't make the trails improve, only a groomer can do that.

Muzzling Zenwaiter's voice, won't makeit snow, nor make the thermometer drop, only God can do that.

Paying for posters that declare 'there is no theft in Quebec', won't stop the thieves; only awareness and theft prevention can stop that.

So, in conclusion, I wish you all good trails, cold weather with plenty of snow, and I wish you will chain up your snow machine everywhere you go, in Quebec or in NY or in VT or in China. That way you can take it home with you after a few days of fabulous snowmobiling on the best trails in the world... QUEBEC!

(PS: this site will soon be a pay site. Be prepared. For some odd reason, money has stopped growing on the trees around the Zen shack. This year more than ever, it will be up to the readers to support this effort, or it will disapear.)

Nov 10 2004

6,000 is alot... 6,000 kilometers that is!

My little house was still here Sunday night when I pulled up the driveway at 10 pm. The miles went past smoothly in that little reliable Nissan. I used 9 tanks of gas at approx 45. cnd per tank. I slept in 3 motels, one in Brandon Manitoba, one in Nippigon Ontario, and another inbetween Wawa and the Soo. The last day of driving, I went from there to St-Zenon, over 1,400 kms in one day. Once I hit Ottawa, I knew I was only 5 hours away, so I kept going.

I turned on the heat, and lit up the oil pot. By midnight, it was warm enough to sleep... kinda. At 4 am, I woke up because of the noise in the kitchen. I reached for the flashlight. I expected to see Pop-up the ermine. I saw nothing. Then I heard it again, crunch crunch... I turned on the flashlight, and I caught him. It was just a hungry little field mouse, the kind with a long snoot.

We call them moullot, pronounced 'moo-low'. I think. It is a long nosed mouse or mole. He was up to his hips in Rocky's dog food dish. When he saw me, he said "I guess the party's over". He slowly climbed out of the dish, and slipped under the stove.

An hour later, I heard something digging under the bedroom. I think it must have been a porcupine or a skunk, cause he was doing some major renovations under the floor in the crawl space. I pounded on the floor the quiet the noisy nieghbour, but he ignored me. "Who the hell are you? Quit your pounding" he said. I got up and got dressed.

I called Crazy Al. I went over for a big breakfast, the first of the winter. We laughed and talked about everything. Then we dug out the names and addresses of every guest he had from last winter, and we mailed out about 50 post cards that just said 'Hello! hope to see you this winter!"

At about 10 am, I hit the post office, then went back to bed in the Zen shack, which was now a little warmer.

I have been setting up the computers, and I did some house cleaning. I'm back. I don't have my high speed Internet until Friday, so I'm going insane. Slow Internet service is really slow up here.

More soon. Weather is cold and snowing again tonight.

Oct 29 2004 Happy Halloween !

While I am on the road next week, I will try to get on a computer in the Internet cafe somewhere and BLOG you.

I will also try to upload some photos in this photo album.

Hope it doesn't snow while I drive across the country. I am putting my snow tires on the car today. If it snows bad in the mountain passes, they will not let me pass unless I have chains on the tires, which I don't have. (no big deal). At worst, they make you get a motel for the night, and plow it all out quickly.

Please say prayer for me, that I'll get across safe, and you can help by sending me some gas money if you feel like it. My little Nissan is great! It will take about 1.5 tanks of gas a day x 5, = 7.5 tanks of gas, x $45. cnd = 337.50. I will also be paying for 4 nights in a motel, and I will be packing fruit and trail mix! I will also bring some food for my co-pilot Rocky.

Why not buy a tank of gas today, to help Zen get back to Quebec in time for the snow!

Yes, I am coming back to do Zenwaiter, because I love it. I am keeping my apartment here in Vernon, so I have a safe cozy place to come home to in the spring. All I am bringing with me is my 2 computers and my helmet. I will be taking photos on the trail by sitting on the back of volunteers' sleds. This way I can take better movies and photos than when I drive with one hand.

I believe I am getting a sponsored sled from Polaris again. I really appreciate these guys, but I don't like to push. If they have a sled for me it will be excellent, though will be so busy posting your trail reports and photos, that it will be hard to find the time. Also, my body has been still struggling with back pain.

To raise money this winter, I will also be taking your photos, and selling you a print. I will probably charge 20 bucks, then send you an 8 x 10 in the mail. We'll see how this idea turns out. I am always looking for ways to cover expenses through the winter.

That's it for now! I am excited about my trip. Hope my Ermine is still living under the Zen Shack! Can't wait to see if the trees I planted last year grew a little. Also, miss that fattening poutine, the clean air, the blue blue sky, the northern lights, and the incredible sunsets at 48 below! CRISPY!

October 28 2004

Crazy Al has reported some snow here and there over the past few weeks, but none on the ground yet. We need the ground and waterways to freeze up first, and then we need snow.

I will be back in Quebec soon to get the stories and the photos.

Wanna rent the Zen Shack? 3500 USD for the winter. Need to know very soon, or else I will live in it myself. Would rather rent it, need the money. I can always sleep in the living room at the Refuge with Fred the dog!

More soon. Getting packed to come back to Quebec.

3- put a link and a logo on your own web site

4-buy a hat or a shirt if and when we have them

5-support our sponsors... stay at their hotels, drink their beer...

6 -When you are in Quebec, talk about the site to anyone who will listen! As you hold your open wallet in your palm, pause before handing over any cash, and say... "One of the reasons I am here today spending cash in Quebec, is ZENWAITER!" This has a strong impact.

7 -send in your photos (keep em small and limit to 4 max) with a text so I can use your trip story on the site. I will probably place it on our mail page.

8 - Save the zenwaiter site in your favs

9 -get your business to become a Zen Sponsor

10 -stick this code on your web site... it is our Google Ads,
and it will earn us 2 or 3 bucks a month. (Cut and Paste it). Imagine if I had these ads on 100 web sites.. wow. It's easy to place this ad on your web site, and it will support us big time.

11-When you run into Zen on the trail, offer to pay for his gas, feed him, and give him a hug! (Okay okay.. if you're from NY, you just need to high five. I know you ain't the 'sensitive types- like the guys from Jersey!! Yeah Right..

12. Rent the Zen Shack for the entire winter, only 3500. us. Dec 26 to March 26. Click here for more details.

13 - Write letters to all the Quebec Tourism boards and orgs, and tell them what you like about Zen's web site.

14 - If I help you to communicate by translating with the Police, (when you have been robbed, or in a crash), tell the authorities that they are lucky to have Zen there in Quebec!

15 - If you meet your love on the trails in Quebec, because I told you we just had two feet of new snow which made you come up, name your first born after me.

16 - Send a cash donation, here.

17 - This winter, when I meet you in a bar or on the trail, I am going to offer you a photo of you on your sled. It will cost you a twenty, 20 bucks, paid on the spot. I will get your mailing address, print it on my computer, then send it to you in the mail. If I can shoot one or two of you guys, or groups a day, it will help alot. Remember, in the winter, I do this full time and no other money comes it! I have to figure a way to make it cover expenses!.

18 - I need someone to get some four inch oval stickers made up with my logo on it, need about 1,000 of these. Find the logo here... then give it to your printer, the send them to me. I will mail them to everyone, and then you can stick them on the bathroom mirror in every motel and bar in Quebec, AND on your sleds!
That's what I'm TALKIN' about BAY-BEE!

19 - Keep your sleds CHAINED up at all times, and do not get your truck and trailer robbed. This will make me very happy. This winter, be smarter than the thieves for a change. Let's run them out of business by being super vigilant. Remember that they are not shy, and will surprise you with boldness. At high noon in a busy place... BANG, your ride is gone.

20- -Participate often in our Bulletin Board, tell others about your experiences in Quebec, especially your latest honest trail conditions, and your most fun motels and bars. Why not share this info with others?

21 - -That's all I can think of for now.. oh yes, one more thing... Bring me a huge PIZZA, real PIZZA, (Pepperoni, salami, mushrooms, onions... whatever! Toss it into the back of your sled trailer so it will freeze, and drop it off at the Zen shack on the way up. . The pizza here in St-Zenon, is, well... ahem... lets just call it different. It is yummie in it's own way, but it is simply not Pizza as the world understands Pizza.

22 - Also, I need real New Jersey bagels, your wife's real spaghetti sauce, and or, your favorite Italian sausage from NY or Jersey.

23 - Oh yes.. Also, if you are in the clothing business, I need Zen hats, T-shirts, etc. to give away or sell.. (I almost always give these away, nobody ever asks to buy them. )

24 - Also need a good helmet for this winter and a new snowmobile suit. (Yes, my old Lazer helmet bit the dust Nick , and I cannot find replacement parts, they went out of business.) Also need new riding mittens and new boots (or used.) I am size 10.5 foot, and extra large jacket, 38 waist size.

25 - Also need all your GPS information to give away on our GPs page.

26 - Also need you to ride SOBER and stay safe. Also try keeping your speed down, and stay on the right side of the trail ... (asshole!!) Last comment was meant for the three guys who almost killed me last year on the way to the dam.

27. In the off season, hire me to build your web site.

That's it for now! Thanks for everything guys and gals... see you in Quebec this winter eh??

I am seriously planning a pay section of the site, for my comments and my Mpegs. Otherwise there won't be any money for the server. I have threatened this for years now, but this year it is going to become a reality. This web site costs money to run.

If you see me in a bar or resto, it is because I am collecting trail information for the site... I update the site almost every day. If you have never given a donation, but love the site, fork over the cash on the spot! It is muchly appreciated.

That's it. End of sermon.

Some advice.

Lock it up, tarp it over, and chain the f*&^@#r up tight, if you wanna take it home with you.

Do not take your sled out to the bar if you wanna get loaded and hang out all night. Leave it in you secure motel.

CHAIN her up with real chains, and chain it to something that can't be cut with one of those rechargeable cutters. Remember, our Quebec theivin' bastards, are almost as talented as your thieves in NY, NJ, etc etc... Thieves nowadays are high tech everywhere.

Watch your sled closely, and watch your truck and trailer too, especially on the road up to Canada. Last year American and Canadian thieves made of with the entire rig several times.

When you go in to eat, someone stays in the truck. Simple. When you are in a bar, someone stays outside on the steps to get fresh air and keeps an eye on the sleds. You take turns watching the perimeter, like you did in Nam.

Also, always keep your registrations in your wallet in case something goes missing.

Being a little paranoid is simple a habit you can get into. Don't let it ruin your fun, but just see it as a responsibility that you have. It's a fact of life anywhere you go.

If you have the opportunity to talk to our Police, don't cop an attitude. Be polite, and try to talk French even if you can't. They will see it as a sign of curtesy, and they will go much easier on you. Come off as a maucho American coyboy, and you may end up with a fine. Don't forget, police are to be respected anywhere. The wild wild west days in Quebec are long past. Don't drink and ride, and respect the speed limits. Do not leave your key in the ignition, it will cost you 130. bucks!

Cheers...

Who the heck Are We??

August 28th

I got a note from Tom Bump (cabinet maker from NYC) last week, and a phone call from Dr. C in Elizabeth NJ. Both these friends gave me 'what for' because I have not been active on this page, or on the Blog. I apologize. I have been trying to earn a living! You know of course, that the meager Zenwaiter income from donations, stops cold at the end of march.

And speaking of 'cold', Crazy Al reports from St-Zenon that it has been a cold summer. Yesterday it was 1C at 7 am on his lake. Does this mean our snowmobile season in Quebec will start early this year?? Hope so.

Remember last winter? We had excellent trails in early December, it was amazing. The entire season was excellent, with several good snow storms, and cold temps.

For more news, this winter, go see our Blog. (The link is on the front page.) I can place a message up on the blog from anywhere I happen to be, whereas the web site requires my lap top.

Also important to note, Your input will be very important on ZW this year. Our bulletin boards will be the main focus of our efforts. You can write about security issues, weather reports, and of course trail conditions for any region of Quebec. Other important topics such as crossing the border, are also addressed.

I realize that most of my readers are lazy.. they just want to be spoon fed the information. This winter, these people will be disappointed. They will find that to get the good info, they will have to visit the discussion boards. I hope they will not only grab the helpful info that others have shared, but that they will spend five minutes to give us their info too!

Learning to 'post' on my boards is easy, but it will take you five minutes to figure it out. Just do it. It will mean BETTER trail condition info for other readers.

Sponsorship. To get your company logo on the front page, go see details on our sponsorship page here.

Can't wait.

July 9th

I am here this morning cause i don't feel like working on my other projects any more. It's just one of those mornings where I feel total laziness and sloth. If you are here for the same reason, why not catch up on your Zen-history, and go read the MAIL page! There's some pretty juicy bits on this page, in case you've been missing it all these years.

Also, I have a call in to the good guy that donated the little Casio digital camera to ZW, (which was stolen in NYC last month). I am asking him if he had insurance through his charge card on that purchase. If he did, he may be able to replace the camera for me. It's a long shot. That little cam gave us all the photos and the videos from last winter. I miss it big.

More news: The Buddy Ford site is now up for Quebec racing freaks, and also, the St-Michel Quad Club web site has been improved. Just two of the web sites I have been chipping away at.

Oh.. Also, I spoke to Crazy Al at the Refuge, things have been quiet for the past month with the onslaught of insects, but now the bugs have abated, and the sun is shining on the lake. Al also tells me that there is a me dirt track in St-Zenon, and they are having their first Buddy Ford organized racing even at the venue in August? Click this banner.

No news from musician/guitarman Steve Solo in Rawdon of late, though I see from his web site that he has been playing his music alot this summer. Musicians are all the same... they are friendly until they hit the big time, then all the cash goes to their head, and you get no news from them at all until they are down again..just like that song from Eric Clapton... "Nobody likes you when you're down and out". PLUS.. Steve's web site work is looking fantastic.. so he must have his head up his ass (like me) too.

Go see...

This is a Rawdon directory that is a blast.
there's tons of cool stuff.
Try downloading Steve's music, you'll love it.

June 21 2004

Greetings dear readers! I am just recovering from my New York trip where I attended the Americade show in Lake George again this year. Unfortunately my camera was stolen, and with it, the story and the color.

I am very tired still from the trip and here in Penticton it is 100 F today and sunny... but not humid at all like Montreal or Ottawa, which would be a living hell.

I have found some summer web work on various projects, so I will be able to pay the rent. Without the camera, we'll have to wait for photos for a while. There are thieves in New York State! Same as in Quebec! Hahaha... that's the proof of it.

I sincerely hope you are all working hard and saving your cash for this winter, when I will see you again in Quebec. You could even come up before the fall, and get some excellent fishing in.

How about some e-mail from you readers?

Zen needs a guide to tour Ground Zero June 4th!

I've been busy reinstalling all my stuff into the new hard drive. Weather here is excellent, got some rain this week, they need that to prevent forest fires. They are announcing a bad dry season this year for the entire Okanagan.

Spending some time here is most excellent. I look fwd to spending the winter in Quebec. I have the best of both worlds. In the fall I will be down in Quebec and traveling to all the snowmobile shows to promote the Zenwaiter sponsors.

In June, I will be at the Americade show in Lake George working for sexy Ron selling leather. I do this every year.

Just before the show, I will arrive in Newark NJ and spend a few days with Dr C. I hope to visit ground Zero. Anyone out there want to spend the day with me and tour me through NYC? Dr C is too busy, and i will need a guide Friday June 4th.

E-mail me HERE, if you can be there!
NYC is not a place I want to see on my own.

Have a good one.
