Christmas Eve I am going to bed early tonight, I am bushed. . I am thankful for a room with a high speed connection here in Toronto. I have a ton of people to see in the coming weeks, only hope I can keep it up.. I am finding that the road is tough... especially when only 7 people have sent in a donation. You can probably guess what I'm thinking eh? Why the heck shd I put myself through all this for 7 people? Too right! The good thing of course is, my direct connection with my sponsors. I get to see them, and see what their place is really like. I can also take photos. This way I can write about them and share all the good stuff with you. Once I have seen all my sponsors this January however, I may head back home to BC. After all, the weather reports and trail conditions can only come from someone on location, and, I have discovered that all my sponsors are eager and willing to give me honest trail reports over the phone. SO.. I do not actually have to BE everywhere at once, in fact, we all know that I can't so why try. My house in St-Zenon is still for sale, and I will not go back there to live until justice has been served, and some scum bag goes to prison for the double murders of March 29th 2005. I think you all agree that it would not be prudent to go and live there until that occurs. There are so many good honest, kind and generous people here in Quebec that serve the sleeders on the snowmobile trails. It is a shame that one high profile murder case will no doubt, do some damage to the business. The locals in St-Zenon claim that they have had no cancellations because of this, but I know it is not the case. Still, I do sincerely hope, that everyone reconsiders, and returns to their favorite snowmobile hotels this winter, as it is not the fault of these small business people that Al and Dan were murdered. The good which has come out of all this, is that there will no doubt be more Police presence in St-Zenon, making it more secure. The other good thing is, that I have been forced to look further afield in Quebec, and I have seen excellent new places and met more good people who are willing to become sponsors and advertise in ZW.COM. I now have sponsors in La Mauricie, the Laurentians, Lac St-Jean, Upper Mauricie, as well as in Lanaudiere. One day, I may have a solid sponsorship base all across Quebec, which means I could hire some help. Those of you that have watched my site for years, can see that I have trouble keeping up. In spite of a 30% increase in unique visitors this December over last, the readership has not supported the site this winter with their donations. Thank God we have more advertising sponsorships! I guess since they come from other districts, they are not being intimidated by the local War Lord in my old stomping grounds, you know what I mean... the guy that used to scream at the ones that supported me. It is true that Al and Dan will be greatly missed, but life will still go on after all. I invite all of Al's old clients to use the telephone.. look at the list of snowmobile motels on my front page, and call them for details about trails and about room prices etc. I have collected a wonderful bunch of sponsors, and I am very proud of the services they provide to you, the English speaking sledders! Let's keep the Quebec trail system rolling. The farmers have finally opened everything back up, and we need your support to keep everything groomed. If you want to preserve the fabulous trail system in Quebec, you're going to have to put your money where your mouth is, and keep heading up here this winter. The Quebec trail system is far from bullet proof.. in fact, it is fragile and must be protected by all her users. Buy your pass, and respect the rights of passage we have secured on your behalf by obeying the rules, and respecting land owners. Leave your loud pipes at home, and slow down when you sled past a residence, or in a village. Be courteous at the gas pumps, and always remember, lock it up, or loose it. Let's not make it easy on the crooks... that way, they'll actually have to get a real job! Merry Christmas to each and every one of you zw
Finally:
back in Quebec As for trail reporting in general, I cannot be everywhere at once, so I will be leaving it up to YOU the reader to make your own phone calls to ask if the snow is good or not... in any region. I am building a new trail conditions CONTACT page, with a list of honest trail condition reporters whom you can call for info. Most of these also own snowmobile related businesses, but have been selected for their honesty, to ensure you get good intel on trails and weather. Wherever possible I will give you 1-800 toll free numbers and the name of someone that talks English. I can't stress to you enough, that you must speak very slowly and clearly. Do not slur your words together. If the contact person can't make out what you are asking, it is YOUR fault. They are volounteering to help you, so damn it, be REALLY NICE! Got it? Good. zw
My New Blog So far, so goo, though no cash flow yet. Oh well, guess everyone is wondering if I can do this job on the run. Who knows? I will do my best. zw
Ready to Roll Today it snowed 4 inches here in Vernon BC. I will check the weather station's forecast for the Rocky Mountain Pass.. Revelstoke to Golden, Golden to Calgary. This is the most treacherous bit of the journey. The rest is way easier. The front seal on the Nissan was leaking oil big time, so I have to spend 500 bucks to do some work on it. I couldn't have it in a dangerous way, as I have to rely on the rolling zenmobile to make this work, so I had this fixed and a few other things. I have the cel phone hooked up, and I am reluctant to publish it, because of the expense it could create, and with no pay site, things are very tight. I am still sick, this damn virus just will not let go, but there comes a time, when I say F-it! It's time to roll. First stop will be Calgary for the night, then Winnipeg for night two, then two nights in Northern Ontario. I need to review my contacts, and try to save money by staying with 'friendlies' along the way. I am really sticking my neck way out there this winter, when I could just as easily stay here in my little apartment, surrounded by good friends. BUT.. I am counting on all my sledder friends to come through, making donations while I am on the road, over the next week or so. Don't let me down! I will be writing in a new Zen Blog, which you will spot on the front page. You will also be invited to respond. I wish more than anything this year, that you the readers, will take your courage in hand, and spend the few minutes it takes, to SHARE your trail and motel info with others. God knows, I have provided everything I can to make this possible.. chat room discussion boards for trail
conditions photo albums mail room radio (any sledder can be my guest!) video clips of you newsletters interactive blog There is nothing that I haven't tried to create a snowmobile community for you. My dream is to be able to continue, this being my SEVENTH winter, reporting what YOU tell me you are up to. Where did you ride this weekend? How was the trail? Where did you eat and sleep, and was it good value? Still, my biggest gripe is that 99.9 % of you, want to be spoon fed. You want one way communication. This is because the media that you have understood in your life was always ONE WAY. I encourage you all to USE this technology, and help to make our community much stronger, and more well informed. In the old days, the media moguls could control public opinion by controlling the media technology with their huge mountains of cash. Today, even a bum like me can voice an opinion, thanks to the Internet. But sometimes a single individual like me or you, can make a big difference in the lives of others. Zenwaiter.com wants to enlighten families, and help them make better decisions about where to go to enjoy a good holiday, and how to do that safely.

Under the Weather I am getting tasks done every day to prepare to come east. I bought an ice scraper for my windows, I got my insurance all sorted out, I have cleaned the car out, and I have been working hard on this virtual office thing.. learning my new lap top, camera, and cell phone. I still have a few things left to do, and also I am waiting for the results of a blood test I did on Friday for a few other things.. That's life. Very busy. Apart from the feeling ill part, the rest is a good thing. It forces me to visit everything in my life.. because to be on the road for a few months, you have to be organized. I got one more invite yesterday from Ben in Jericho Vermont. I hope to drive down there for a few days and do a story on his club and his trails. All in all I am a little nervous about this trip as usual, but I am also exctied at the thought of making new friends all over.. especially in the Mauricie Region. Apart from Bernard's constant cigarette smoke, I can't wait to see him again! (Oh oh.. I may be sicker than I thought!) zw
Mountain Top Ride Lots of cool photos of my two days of mountain top riding, thanks to Dave of KMA Tours in Ymir BC. I just got home.. need to sleep. More soon. zw
Last year at this time, I was already on the road to Quebec. This year, I will run a little later. I am working very hard here, preparing my mobile office, and testing it out. I have mobile centrino technology this year, which means I will be uploading my web site from Starbucks all across Canada; well, that's the plan anyways. I will be on the road almost full time. To be able to make audio files daily by talking to you on the trails and in restaurants, to take you photos and video clips of you riding, and to be able to post from anywhere that has wireless internet access.. now that's the ticket! The new lap top was 22 hundred including the extended two year warranty. Last time my lap top fried at 18 months. The new camera and lenses ran another two grand. I figure I have to best the average photographer out there by a long shot, if I expect to have faithful readers come to the site on a regular basis. Every other year it seems, I would buy a small digital for 7 or 8 hundred, but they always fell apart. This new Nikon is built like a tank. In a few short weeks, I'll be in the east. I hope to follow the snow. I got offered a trailer from a manufacturer, but I think I'll go low key.. not truck, no trailer, just show up where there is snow in the little Nissan, and get some good stories for you. All I really need is a sled for an hour to run out and grab local trail pictures for you. I don't have the time to go on the long distance runs anymore. This time of year is always the same. The email starts pouring in, and the level of enthusiasm soars for the sport everywhere. Excitement fills the air, and anticipation. Looks like the snow is coming early this year. As many of you have heard Bernard spouting on TC.COM, I will indeed be visiting several little motels and auberges in the Mauricie Region this winter, but I will also be in other places. You will get daily updates from the road if all goes well. I am still accepting invitations to your town... If you have snow! This winter, 'discovery' is my theme. See you on the trails! zw
